I have to admit the story is interesting and has many twists and turns which will keep you reading, however it is totally contradictory to other highlander novels that have indicated how life was like back then. For example, how is it possible that this clan of Eileen Donan is so mighty but the enemy is able to infiltrate without detection and murder the leader, then the son or the hero wimps out more than once, when they are supposed to be brave strong fierce warriors. We know most women in those times are only seen and not heard and never embarrass the head of the clan in front of his people, but she does it on more than one occasion and she calls him out about his wimping out. I get the idea of the heroine being sassy and brave that's what makes these novels interesting. The heroine meets her parents which should be an important part of the book because that how this story starts but it was the saddest reunion, lasted all of 5 minutes, the author dropped the ball there. Next the heroine is injured yet still she is on the battle field wielding a sword and who knew she knew how to fight, it was never hinted at earlier in the book.
The ending is the worst part, it was a cliff hanger and no indication given when the sequel is coming out if at all. All in all, the leaders in this book for all the clans and including the king are portrayed as idiots because none of them are smart enough to figure out they have enemies in their camps, tsk tsk!!

Highlander Embrace Misty Highlands Book 1 edition by Amy Isan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I'm usually all about contemporary romance, but I decided to give this book a try...and I'm so glad that I did. I loved the sword-swinging, tough men in the story. Of course, all of the action and passionate romance doesn't hurt either. I'll absolutely be back to read more from Amy Isan.
I enjoy Scottish historical romance and this novel from Amy Isan is a meaty story that combines romantic elements with lots of action. The authentic dialog and descriptive setting drew me into and kept my attention from beginning to end.
While the stormy relationship between Elyn and Gavin was the focal point of this story, the author did a wonderful job of combining elements of family, pride and passion. A well-told tale of loss and love!
I'm a sucker for Scottish romances, and I'm not even Scottish. There's something beautifully enchanting about the highland mists, sword wielding heroes, and precious maidens that recalls all the heart's glories in another bygone age.
Amy Isan presses all the right buttons in this debut historical book! Gavin is on a mission to avenge his father, traveling far and wide across the rugged highlands, where he meets Elyn. Not only does he rescue her from a grim melancholy - he sets her heart on fire - kindling a romance that's awesome to watch unfold.
I loved the way Ms. Isan detailed intricate clan relations and historical intrigue as well as out-and-out sword thrusting action. This story is also jam packed with sweet and spicy scenes between the H and h that will make your heart warm and your blood boil.
Beautiful story. Hope there are more historicals like this from the talented Amy Isan.
I'm not one for historical books, so I'll admit I didn't go searching for a highlander romance, but when I stumbled onto this one the cover immediately drew me in - it's a stunning work of art so bravo to the artist. After a quick scan of the description I decided to give it a try and so glad I did.
In "Highlander's Embrace" we meet Gavin MacKenzie a man on quest to seek vengeance on the person/people responsible for his father's death. He has no interest in anything or anyone but the task at hand, but when he meets the fiery read-head, Eyln Douglas, he finds he is in serious danger of losing the one thing he never imagined he would - his heart
I adored both the hero and heroine. The hero was a perfect alpha, but had a tender, sensitive side that was unexpected. The heroine was very feisty, she spoke her mind, and gave Gavin a run for his money. After reading this story and thoroughly enjoying it, I think I may try some more from this author and this genre.
When I read historical romances like this, one of the main things I look for besides the romance is immersion in the world surrounding it. Highlander's Embrace definitely doesn't disappoint in those regards. Right from the start, I was pulled into this Scottish Historical world in a real and wonderful way.
I loved this story so much, too! Besides the historical world aspects being really amazing, the plot is interesting and exciting, too. There's a lot going on in it, with different angles that you don't initially expect. It's a fun story, but it's a serious sort of one, too.
Elyn is a really interesting character. I loved her thought process and the various interactions she had with all of the characters. I thought she was deep and poignant, and I especially liked when she ended up meeting Gavin. There was an immediate connection there, but not unreal or trite, you know? The whole thing was just exciting to me! I definitely rooted for them.
This story does have a lot of the common things you'd look for in a Scottish historical romance, but it's so much more, too. A lot of it is a unique and fresh take on similar themes that I think any historical romance reader will really enjoy. I'd highly recommend checking it out if you like historical romance, and especially if you want some fun conflict and sexual tension. It's a great story!
