Taming an Impossible Rogue Scandalous Brides Series Suzanne Enoch 9780312534523 Books

I had just finished a book by this author and decided to give another one of hers a try. So I purchased this one. I did not know this was the second one in the series, but it doesn't matter... she spends plenty of time, throughout this book, explaining and repeating what connects from the first one.to this one. Anyhow. I had read that this author really bring facts into her stories that others don't talk about. Part of real history. I was curious. This book began with the typical set up, that the hero was in a situation where immediately you realized he is not one to mess with. O.kl. So I am reading on. and somehow, in my eyes, he switched from this promising her to this complex character. For the first time I did not like the hero. These books are not written so you study a character etc. And all the sudden I found myself going back and forth about totally disliking him to feeling hopeful that he might come around. One minute he is plotting how to rescue the heroine and the other he is unable to make decisions. I became more interested in his friend Adam. The Duke. That was a character that was a bit secret but with will power and standing tall. I like how she tried to not sugar coat situations people were in back then. Royal or not. Yes I learned, began to understand how rank mattered and if for some reason you were not, how everyone responded to that. That made me upset for the characters but I was glad for the inside information. As for the setting. This entire book basically plays between two main houses and this Tandalus club. And by the way.. she mentions this club and its purpose ( and yes I know it really existed ) so many times, that I was really bored with it. I understood it the first time, didn't needed to read it again and again and again and again and again...... This book really drove me crazy. I disliked it for her switching the characters within the pages . Their strengths and weaknesses. Their needs and wants. I could have done with a little less suffering of this hero's emotions... but more thinking what he could do next. That sort of came from his buddy. It shows him in a stage of his mind, that many authors are not allowing. Their hero is always walking the path and knows what to do. I like that she switched it but it made no sense. In the very beginning she makes him sound strong and then he is a farmer in need of money for his personal secret and so on. His inner deamons are eating him up and why then is he able to form a common thought when it comes to this girl. And he pretty much sets her up to fall in love with her but then he is acting all upset that she did because he has nothing to offer and his cousin has the rights to marry her which he knew from the beginning. And so on. It was such a boring story. With some moments of greatness.. and I finally sat up and took notice of the pace changing. But it usually happened when he interacted with his friend and or other characters showed up. BUT I would recommend reading this book, because the next two in this series are really good. I therefore really like and recommend the scandalous bride series. I just don't care much for this one. BUT all of the ones in here show up again and again in the next two. And I love them there. But still.. Keating is strange.. but now he is strong again and stands up for his wife and to his friend. And still I feel he is rude when not needed and clueless when one would think it is obvious what is going on. But again, this book is the introduction to the next two and they were written really well. And Camille.. well she goes from shy to I know what I want... and her situation is a bit more twisted then others I have read about, but in the end, of course right will happen. But again, it is interesting to see how families often cared more about their names and standards, then their family members. That was well portrait.

Taming an Impossible Rogue Scandalous Brides Series Suzanne Enoch 9780312534523 Books Reviews

This book is a real keeper !
I really enjoyed the story so much. It has it all romance and humor and adventure !
I like the fact that both hero and heroine were outcasts and it showed how brave both were.
I LOVED the adorable way Keating was using his bad and wicked reputation to protect Camille .Ah you've got to read it to understand.
Keating was so hot and delicious. He was strong yet so vulnerable. I loved him so much !!
Camille was a smart and sweet and gentle and brave you can't help but like her.
Moreover, I liked the role played by Sophia White and The Duke of Greaves (their story is Rules to Catch a Devilish Duke)
The ladies at the club were all interesting
This story definitely deserves 5 stars because I enjoyed it from cover to cover I could not put it down and that is enough for me
The core of this series of novels is the Tantalus Club, a gentlemen's club owned, run, and staffed primarily by women. For modern readers, that men want service from women is a given. But historically, not so much. I'm not bothered by those kinds of anachronisms, and indeed, I love the overt feminist ideals of the club owner and managers. (For others, ymmv.) The heroine and hero in this one are also quite lovely. The tortured hero in this case has genuinely done something awful, not just something that he's misunderstood. He has to genuinely figure out how to be a good man who has done several deeply bad things. As usual, he goes a little overboard in trying to make up for it, and does manage to almost completely bollocks things up. And the heroine, too - oh god, will the self-sacrificing never end! Thank goodness it does eventually. (I trust I don't need to insert a spoiler warning for that observation.) **Spoiler-ish forthcoming** There is also some anachronistic attitudes to sex which allow the virgin heroine to dispense with said-virginity with minimal fuss that suits my black feminist heart very well. If these features don't bother you, then I recommend this one.
Keating Blackwood is indeed an impossible rogue. He has a history darker than most - his youth in London would put some rakes to shame. Years prior, young Keating disregarded society and spent his days seducing women and raising hell, but ultimately his price was heavy as his games ended in murder. Long since he has removed himself from the ton and settled in the country, trying to find solace in the humble life of a gentleman farmer.

Years later he accepts his cousin's offer of a £10,000 reward if he convinces Lady Camille Pryce, his cousin's runaway bride, to return to the alter. Camille has been taken in by Lady Haybury, owner of the Tantalus Club, and has found herself ruined and rejected from society. Keating wastes no time in drawing out Camille, but he was not expecting to find a kindred spirit in her.

I really enjoyed this romance. It had just enough spicy moments to keep things interesting, but I also appreciated that the hero and heroine formed an actual friendship. Because they can relate so much, they find a rare acceptance in each other. They form a friendship in which they are astonishingly open and honest with each other. There were no big misunderstandings in this romance and the hero and heroine don't waste time bickering. I found their interested and candor with each other refreshing. Their reasons for being unable to be together hold weight the whole story. Their situations are believable.
