Boundless Unearthly Cynthia Hand Books
Boundless is the much anticipated finale to the Unearthly series, and it mostly doesn't disappoint. Clara, Angela, and Christian have all started their first year at Stanford where Angela's vision has led them. Little do they know just how dangerous her vision turns out to be, and how little of it actually takes place on campus. Things almost immediately get really intense, and I don't mean their course loads! Angela finds herself in a predicament that will change all of their lives forever. As I said in my review for Radiant, Angela's role is definitely larger. I loved seeing more of her, even though she's not her usual upbeat, snarky self. She has some huge life changes coming up, and I could only hope that it ended well for her. Of course, there is a happy ending, but it takes a lot of pain and struggle to get there even with the help of her two best friends.
Clara is continuing to rework her sense of identity throughout Boundless from learning to live without her mom, choosing a major and career path, and reevaluating her purpose. It turns out that is has nothing to do with what she original though, and I enjoyed that twist. It was definitely unexpected, but it makes sense given everything that has happened. She also grows as a person and comes into her angelic powers. I really enjoyed learning more about all she can do, despite not being the biggest angel fan.
The romance takes a back seat to the action in this one. You may think that Clara and Christian will be all over each other now that they're in college together, but nope. Everything keeps getting in the way of their budding romance, and then of course, there's Tucker. Clara is obviously not over him, much to Christians disappointment. I think the author did an amazing job with the love triangle. It didn't dominate the larger plot, and it felt natural, not forced.
All in all, I really enjoyed this ending to the series. I did get teary eyed near the end, but it didn't bring the water works like Hallowed did. I also found some of the resolutions a little cheesy and convenient. I was hoping for a heart stopping finish, but things were a little too neatly tied up. The epilogue was really cute though, and even though it was a little disappointing, I think it was the right ending.

Boundless Unearthly Cynthia Hand Books Reviews
First allow me to state that I have read the entire series and a plethora of books and this genre. I love books and I'm a total zap for a love story but I couldn't find it here! I don't think I have ever been so disappointed at the ending of a book! You mean to tell me that Christian fights for her, first next to her, supports her, follows her to hell, rejection after rejection and she stays with the guy who's nauseated by her light? Do you have any idea what is like to be rejected and continue fighting for the one person you love? Tucker let her go, he didn't fight for her, he was mean to her, and he was cocky because he knew she loved him. I'm heartbroken for and with Christian! Christian who sacrificed so much. It was his love that go them out of hell; his love that filled her with strength; his love that protected her from harm, but none of it was enough. Love didn't win in this book, the love that makes you strong, that helps you heal, that makes you want more of everything, that love didn't win. What we have here is a poorly constructed sappy love triangle where true love is overlooked because of Clara's stubbornness! I hated this ending, I hate to see love fail!
I actually finished this book earlier this week, but I needed time to calm down from the disappointment before I visited this world again. As for plot and pacing, the book was amazing. I severely enjoyed the book up to the end. As the end got closed though, I started shaking and says 'No, no, no, NO!' It was not pretty. In order to get the book out of my sight, I had my mom read it. Apparently, I was then walking around my room all day muttering like a madwoman and talking to myself. You see what books do to me! I literally cried after I finished the book. Supposedly, the beginning and end of a book are the hardest to write. That could be the reason why I didn't enjoy the ending of Boundless as much as I should have.
The main character is Clara. I love her character. I love how she's written and she's so well done. I question some of her choices, but that what makes her feel real. After all, nobody's perfect. Her best friend Angela on the other hand, I have problems with. Angela is nice and sweet and all that, but she's an idiot. I really really REALLY want to smack her sometimes. Seriously. She. Acts. So. Stupid. And it's not just normal teen stupid either. It's REALLY stupid. Some... interesting events take place with her in Boundless and I just want to walk up to her and say, "Well what did you think would happen?" Let's just say, this book is NOT for young readers. Then there's the Christian/Tucker love triangle. I want to shake Clara and say "Go for Christian Clara! Christian!" But she just doesn't listen to me! She just keeps agonizing over which boy she should be with. Sigh, well, you'll find out who it is in the end.
Here's what I said to my parents after finishing the book, "A book doesn't have to be wrapped in a nice, big, bright bow or anything, but it needs to be a little bow or a knot. That, or it can have a bunch of loose string everywhere that's wrapped up in a spinoff. But all Boundless has is a bit of ribbon lightly draped around it, or one of those fake bows that stick on. I need a spinoff, or something! It can't end that way." Hence, I've decided to petition Cynthia Hand for a spinoff of the Unearthly series until she complies. I need to know everyone's fate! The book was really building up to something that never really happens. There's a bit more lead-up to it, but nothing more. What am I supposed to do when people are still heartbroken or unsure at the end? It's just not right. But, the book really was good quality and I've done a lot of complaining. I still love Cynthia Hand as an author and enjoy her books. If she ever writes more books (preferably a spinoff of the Unearthly trilogy) I'll read them. So, because the book was still good, but I wasn't satisfied, Boundless gets four stars.
